I have owned a lot of Ford truck in the passed and by far this is my favorite, I like the look and comfort. My last ford was a 92 F-250 single cab diesel. So I am playing catch-up with the newer model. I bought it used @ 150,000 for a great price knowing it needed some general maintenance. Thanks in advanced for your responses.

This is where I am so far:

05 Screw 5.4 V3 has 162,000 - at low idle I can hear a knocking, as the rpm's rise the knock get faster but then quiets down “is that the Cam phasers”? What are the chances that the phasers have been done and now its time again or they have never been done?
What is the standard interval for changing phasers? I have the money and the time; I’ve read the article on how to change them and I have no problem doing the work.

Another issue:
When I hammer the throttle its like the truck doesn’t know what gear to be in, it launches, then stalls, down shifts launches again, you have to easy off the pedal to settle it down. If you easy it to the floor its fine. Is this a phaser thing?



Do you think it’s the Phasers; if not what?

Do the phasers affect fuel mileage?


This is what I have done: I’ve done plugs, cops’, throttle body cleaning, relay replacement for hubs, Tranny fluid and filter, oil changes every 5000, I have a 2” leveling kit, 09’ Badges, tension pulley.

The phasers will not affect gas mileage nor is the tranny searching the phasers. Mine acted like that until I got a tuner. A custom tune will completely change the charteristics of shifting and downshifting. Solved all my problems.

 

does any one no what the price at the dealer for a new 5.4 installed

 

Roughly , about $7000. That was the bill for a Expy, that I seen. - 2006 5.4L.

Put about 31,000 miles on it with an Edge, then got an 87 Performance and a 93 Performance tune from PHP. I have about 47,000 mostly on the 87 Performance tune. If I were buying again, I would buy a Gryphon from PHP.
