5.4L Engine Noise

Hi all.. Need some advice and direction.. got a "02 F150 5.4L w/ 75k on the odometer.. When cold, there is a very slight single knocking sound until the engine warms up.. then as it warms up, the noise goes away..

Oil pressure is where it always is and I'm running Royal Purple 5W-20 oil. Idles like new and has plenty of power.. no oil burning..

Not sure if I have a problem arising or not, but need some input from those in the know..

Thanks

5.4L Engine Noise

Hi all..
Need input and advice.. Got a '02 F150 5.4L w/ 70k on the clock.. Never abused... Idles smooth and has plenty of power all the time.. does not burn oil or smoke in any way.. Auto trans 2WD standard cab, short bed..

When cold, I can hear a slight knock until the engine warms up. then no noise at all.. Oil pressure is where it has always been which seems normal...

Any suggestions??

Thanks

5.4L Engine Noise

Hi
Need help, guidance & suggestion.. '02 F150 70k on the clock.. Standard cab, short bed automatic.. 5w-20 Royal Purple, doesn't smoke or burn a drop.. Runs very smooth and plenty of power..

Very slight knocking noise when cold.. dissappears when warm...

Any ideas out there? Am I looking at a potential problem or is it not engine related?

Thanks

If it's a ticking noise, it's probably the exhaust manifold - the bolts are known to break... That's the first thing that comes to mind being that it will quit when the truck warms up

You sure its not an exhaust manifold leak? Common. Try to pinpoint with a stethoscope where the knocking is coming from. What Oil filter are you using?

What kind of oil filter are you running on that? Hopefully not the orange can of death (FRAM)!

Wrong Filter. Your motor, 2002 5.4L = FL820 Motorcraft.

Hey, do you know in the exhaust forum?
