My motor build from PMP was a little over 8k installed. Pulling the motor out of our trucks can be done but you have to remove the harmonic balancer to get it in/out of the engine bay because there is barely enough room to maneuver it out between the core support and the upper cowl lip, once past that there is plenty of room in the engine compartment to set it in.

To pull an engine, rebuild, and install 7-8k is about right. You also sent your heads off for port work.

Way I was understanding it is he was going to get charged 10k for a shortblock build...

If it's 10k for a short-block, ported/polished heads, cams, and labor for installing it all back in his truck then that is about right.

Just an FYI, MMR is selling a their 5.4 shortblocks right now that handle 1000hp and warrantied for a year for ANY REASON for $2900...

MMR will do a stage 3 port job on your heads for.... $900

I went with Fox Lake, port&polish oversize valves and cams for just shy of $2500, I didn't get a screaming deal, but I wasn't getting ripped off. The cam journals were repaired as well (3 were hands down bad shape)

I did however neglect to mention I spent close to $8k on mine, but I bought the supercharger and such related parts for it as well. I guess I came out alright even for having the builder assemble is so he would guarantee it.

You pay for fox lake, but they are arguably the best out there. Along with Livernois Motorsports. They are all within a few CFM of each other, so one just has to debate if that extra 6cfm is worth $600-800 or not. To some it is, to others it isn't.

I plan on sending my heads to MMR, for stage 3 port job and oversized valves. Probably going to end up costing me around $1600 for the head work alone. Still undecided who I want to go with for custom ground cams.

FatherFord,

My Rig being built: 2008 F150 (low mileage 5K to 10K), 12" Rize on 40's and a Whipple Supercharger (8lbs pulley).

I understand a lot depends on how it is driven and most of my driving will by on the street, however when I want to go off-roading I prefer to over build, so things don’t break as soon as I go up a hill or through a mud puddle.

My questions to you:
Putting a SuperCharger on a low Mileage stock V3 engine: Good or Bad Idea?
Will the stock transmission handle the additional HP?

Your thoughts and recommendations are greatly appreciated

Take look on line, prices and quality range all over the place. I have about 5000 in the 3.7 stroker motor for my G, built for twin turbos with about 20 lbs of boost. That is doing everything but the machining and head work myself. When I was building engines for people while in college(20 yrs ago), they were spending anywhere from 3000 to 7500, for parts and machine work. Most expensive engine I built was a 510 CI 385 series with Al SCJ heads, and Al block, parts and machine work aboout 15000. This went in a 79 F150 on 44s, that used to spank Dennis Anderson's butt at the mud races in Elizabethh City every weekend.

^^^ Didn't know about him, Randy at performance associates was recommended to me by the other shop that did some work for me. On my next build I'll try him.

To get in on this discussion...I am looking at getting a built motor for my 05. I have been pricing things and it seems 8k is what a long block runs if you dont do the work yourself. I have talked to JDM and for 8500 I can get a forged bottom end ported heads and the frpp hot rod cams i want all assembled and timed minus the valve covers oil pan and timing cover.

I looked at MMR but on there site under long blocks its listed under the 4.6 but they told me the 5.4 is the same price. For a built long block with the stg 3 heads, cams, and every thing timed is 8500 too. But that is not with the arp studs and things that JDM I think uses.

Livernois told me about 12-13k for a long block and BBR told me about 8500 but thats with me sending mine to them and them reusing the crank and a few other things.

So right now I am leaning to the JDM deal since I also want someone that can tune it so theres less room for finger pointing if something goes wrong.
