5.4 oil

5.4 oil

i need to change the oil in my truck that i just got. the book recommend 5-20 but i use 5-30 in everything else. would it be ok to run 5-30. im gonna run full synthetic mobil 1 if it makes any difference

Yea, the other new guy got off light cause there hadn't been an oil thread in a month or better, but you're pushing it buddy Search!

Haha! True dat! Lots of teeth gnashing, screeching on here about oil and the 5.4's. The cam phaser system seems to be picky about viscosity to work properly according to posts I've read on here over last couple yrs. I stick to Motorcraft 5w20 semisyn and the Motorcraft 520 filters here on mine. No problems so far.

You should not be using standard Mobil 1 5W30 in any OHC engine - it has documented issues. If you want to use Mobil 1 5W30, use the EP formulation. If you want to use standard Mobil 1, use 5W20.

With that said, the recommended oil for the 5.4 3V is 5W20.
