5.4 swap.

I tried a search sorry for this. A 2003 4.6 is what I have, will it be harder to swap a 97 5.4 than a 2003 5.4 into it or all the 5.4s the same.

Go with a 99 to 03 5.4!
The 97 and 98 5.4 had less power.
Any of them will work though.

Make sure you don't get an '03 5.4 out of an Expedition because it will be the 3V. The Expedition went to the "New body" (all new frame and suspension AND 3V in the 5.4) in '03 but the F-150 didn't get it in the "New body" till the '04 model year. Don't be confused about WHEN they were actually built, the smog sticker under the hood is an official document and will always determine the ACTUAL model year of the vehicle. My wife drives a 2011 Toyota Camry and they started building them in about Apr. or May of '10.

Gotcha. Thanks. As far as the 97-98 5.4 being less power. Is it just the PI heads that are different. I'm asking cause I might by a 97 xlt for 1000$ and switch everything over to my xl. And ut happens to have the 5.4 and I was going to rebuild that over the winter.

Yes,
it is just the PI heads and intake manifold that give the newer ones more power.

Why does the info I have show only VIN "L" in the 03 Expy? I don't show VIN "5" till 2005.

I believe the first 3 valve engines in North America went in the 2004 f-150.
