Ok to run at wide open throttle?

Will flooring the truck while towing hurt the engine?

I do it every time I tow up parleys canyon and thats nearly every time i tow. Have a 5k lbs trailer and that canyon takes all the truck has to do 50 over it. if something like a semi gets in the way I cant get over 45 again. Steep hill..

What's the grade like jethat, 6% ? Yea, 5000 is all I like to pull. I'm usually @ 2700 Rpms w/OD off on the e-way. I pull a tandum @ 70 mph, - sometimes faster lol.

They sure do like the fuel, but I could never get that truck to use any oil between changes, even when puling heavy.

I've done the mountains in PA quite a few times, hauling vehicles, but that was with a 7.3L dually. The turbo definitely worked well

yep its 6%. I've towed several things up and down that hill. The hardest was my buddys broken Bronco on a car dolly. Scary. The camp trailer I have now tows nice but that hill slows it down big time. dont have to worry about shutting off the OD. It would never shift into it although I do shut it of to keep from going to fast on the down side.

6% is pretty steep lol. I've had to back up a grade like that or steeper with the 5four and one of those Handicap Vans on the trailer. That was a PITA, thought I was going twist the driveshaft since the drive was so steep and fricken twisty. Plus it was hard to see where I was going. That's first time I heard my u-joints make any noise lol.

I've never tried a car dolly, never liked that set up. My dad had one tho, at one time. He gave me a magnetic light kit for vehicles in tow that he used lol. Never found a use for them tho.

I plan on avoiding using a car dolly ever again. Wonder the whole time if its gonna come off. specially going down hill and you got a slow semi ya gotta brake for. If it falls off going up hill you know it aint coming after you.. Bronco was definitely to big for that set up.

Well, One of the many tests that Ford runs for durability is a 300 hr FIE. It consists of running a engine (I'll use a 4.6 pn96 truck engine for example) at peak torque 3,200 rpm WOT ( wide open throttle) for 3 hrs straight. The engine then drops down to 1500 Pt ( part throttle) for 30 minutes. Then back up to peak power 5750 WOT for another 3 hrs. This cycle continues around the clock until the engine reachs 300 total test hours. Oil changed every 50 test hrs. The exhaust temps run between 1400 and 1700 degs for the duration. It's basicly the same as pulling a trailer up Pikes Peak with the pedal to the floor. Very rare to tear one down and find any damage also rare to have one fail one of these tests as brutal as it is.The absolute worse engines to tear down are the ones that were in some little old ladies Crown Vic and was never driven faster than 45 miles an hour.LOL. Take care.
