Underdrive Crank Pulley Failure!!

Very strange...ever heard of a crank pulley fail?? Mine did today. I have the underdrive pulley set, but the one on the crank came apart. Didn't really pay any attention to it before, but it's two pieces. An inner (where it bolts to the front of the crank) and an outer (that has the ribs on the pulley for the belt). There's like some rubber insulator section between the two. Well, that section/material failed and the outer part slips along the inner part. Wobbles around and makes a god aweful racket. So, now I gotta replace that.

I think I got the set from Troyer, but it's been so long I don't remember. Have to wait til Mon morning to call around and check.

If not Troyer, you guys know a good place to get just the crank pulley?? I don't want to buy a stock replacement with the other matched pulleys still on some of the other accessories. Stock one from NAPA is around $75. Haven't shopped for an underdrive yet.

I had a crank pulley leave an 83 F250 6.9 diesel once. It went thru the radiator and A/C and then out the grille. Damage was around $2,000. back in 83. The truck had about 20,000 miles on it and Ford said tough cookies- not under any kinda warranty. My cousin found a radiator for me which I put in it and I found a pulley at a junk yard that fit it. The grille came from the junk yard and I had the A/C fixed. I sold the truck after the injector pump crapped out about 1000 miles later- still no warranty by Ford. That was my last diesel and almost my last Ford. I sold the truck to a friend that knew about the problems I had been having with it. About 6 months after he bought it the block cracked in the middle of the summer at a freeze plug. And then there was the water pump failure, vacuum pump failure, starter failure, another injector pump and I was real glad when he sold it. He threatened to paint it yellow, lemon yellow. That was also his last Ford diesel...kinda. He now drives a 79 F-250 with a 5.9 Cummins in it. Beautiful truck!

Any intel on MAC stuff?? They have a pulley set for like $139. Troyer has just a crank pulley for $179, but they say it has some type of dampner to it.

Thoughts??

They would be out of business if they tried that now. no warranty at 20k.. Thats laughable now.. what was the drivetrain warranty on that truck?

if you want the best go with Steeda. ASP makes Troyer pulleys and you can get them cheaper from ASP.

Actually, I called both...Troyer was $10 cheaper. But yea, I knew ASP made his. Why is Steeda better? Also, don't see any indication of stuff for our trucks on their website? All Mustang stuff. Plus, the pulley for the truck has a dampner portion to it...that's why it's two parts. I may be wrong, but didint think you could slap on a one piece pulley only on this motor.

Sorry, i didn't see that you have the 5.4. I have a 4.6 and most of the 4.6 mustang parts will swap. I read on here that a few guys are running the Steeda mustang 3v 4.6 u/d pulleys on there 3v 5.4 with no problems. All Steeda pulleys have built in dampners and are sfi certified. If you buy and crank pulley that doesn't have a dampner your asking for problems.
