2001 S/Crew 5.4L Not Shifting Properly
Greetings,
Problem 1: My truck is not shifting gears as it should. The timing seems all wrong. Accelerating up a hill does not cause it to drop down as it used to and it sometimes holds a gear longer than it should. I have had COP problems before and have had a few (but not all) of them replaced. I called the mechanic that performed the COP work and asked if changing them out could do something to the computer and/or timing of the gears changing and he said no. He said they were pretty much plug-and-play and had no effect on gear switching or timing.
Problem 2: Also, since I have owned the truck (original owner), after cold starting it, putting it in drive, driving it just a short distance (say 200 ft. or so), and then coming to a stop, the engine will actually surge and try to accelerate. This is a very intermittent problem. Once every 75 starts or so. It's not severe and holding the brake keeps it from moving. However, I'm worried that one day it could do it unexpectedly when I come up behind someone.
The reason I put these two problems together in the same post is because they may be related.
Any ideas on either of these issues? Thanks in advance!
