Anyway, I need to know where the sucker is, and I need to know the shortest route to it. I've only owned the truck about two months and can now replace the thermostat in 20 minutes, complete. Need guidance or I might do something stupid. [/QUOTE]

Up there is a part of my original question concerning the CHT sensor. I have had several answers and do now believe it is under the intake manifold, drivers side, front. That is where the wiring harness goes and it is where one of you fine people told me to look for it. Amazingly, the Ford dealer's parts department shows it diagonally opposite that location. They probably think it has a water temp gauge as well. Interesting things have been happening with it in the last couple of days. it might not be THE problem but it definitely has a problem in the wiring harness. I guess the intake manifold has to come off. Any short cuts, bearing in mind this is a 2003 SCREW with a 5.4 engine, two wheel drive, Lariet? Thanks for any help that might be forth coming.

Don’t pull the intake to get at the only coolant temp cht sensor the truck has. Check this link out first. It’s a pita to get at but I did it for the first time in around 45mts max all said and done. If you look at the pic you can see it under the coolant crossover and in the driver side head. I had to use a few different sockets to get it in and out but you can do it trust me. Lots of little turns by hand after you break it loss with a ratchet just go at it by hand. Don’t pay the stealer ship unless you have no other option. If you leaved near me I would give you a hand. Good luck

BTW there is no coolant that came out of mine it was dry so my guess is its not any old school type of water temp sensor where all very familiar with. I believe it reads head temps and coolant temps this way all nice and dry.

Right now, while I try to get it sorted, there is no thermostat. Yes, I know. It has been out (this is a new one I installed last week) for two days. As soon as I get the problem solved, the thermostat will go back in. The problem happened again today. When I turn the swith on, it does it's little act. let it run for two minutes or less, turn it off, turn it back on and everything is ok except the "Check engine light" stays on. The code is the one about high cylinder head temp. I am pretty much convinced that the good ole boy that owned this truck ( 83) probably replaced that sensor with one intended for use on a light. It has analog but also acts like a switch. Anyway, I need to know where the sucker is, and I need to know the shortest route to it.
The truck is fixed. I now know where the CHT sensor is, how to change it and when to change it.

Thanks to all,
