Project Proposal...

I recently blew a spark plug and it has been fixed for now but i am seriously considering turning it into a summer project to swap out the motor becuase i dont like worrying about it happening again... and make it a bit faster.

Current Setup:
2001 f150 4.6l romeo 4x4 all stock except for gotts mod, flowmaster dummy duals and superchips.

Proposed setup:

swap out the engine with either a lightning or harley s/c 5.4
regear to 3.90s
285 70 17
gryphon with custom tunes
e fans
UDPs
CAI
lt headers and true dual magnaflow 2.5" h pipe

Questions...

1. as long as i have the wiring harness and computer i should be good to go rite?

2. will UD pulleys work with s/c?

3. what else should i take into consideration with the swap, will my stock tranny be able to handle the extra power even after the new torque converter?

any input is appreciated!

I hate to pee on your parade... but, if you want to put a 5.4 in your truck you should know that it is more common to blow out plugs on the 5.4 than the 4.6. So, if your concern is to make sure it doesn't happen again, well, you get the idea.
Either way, good luck and let us know how it goes!

either way both will blow plugs...solution-torque them down to what they are suppose to be torqued to and dont worry about it...or check them every now and then..i did mine almost 2 years ago and tightened the **** out of them and havent had a problem,

#1 you will use your current wiring harness and computer (unless you swap to a 4r100 transmission)

#2 only the ruslow ud pulley system (only 70 were ever made)

#3 a built transmission preferably a 4r75 conversion

The 8.8 axle and 4R70W tranny won't last long with a blown 5.4 in front of it.

4.10's would be a better deal. I think 3.90's aren't as common and would be more expensive.

No it will not. I have heard if your easy on the 4r70w it may last a while (mine has). Mine will go soon but you could get some miles until you save for a built one. And yes 4.10's.

not without a divorced transfer case, IIRC.

Nah, blowout can happen on either, - no advantages. They share the SAME heads, nonPI and PI. So you didn't pee, might of spotted lol.

Unless you are building the engine for a rediculous amount of horsepower, the 4R70W CAN be rebuilt to handle 500+ H.P. A good article is here: http://tccoa.com/articles/tranny/tra...on/index/shtml
Also, might want to talk to Darrin Burch at BC Automotive at www.bcatransmissions.com

Even the 8.8" rear end could be built to handle the power with the right set of components. I know the Mustang crowd is doing 9's in the 1/4 mile with the 8.8 rear end, so it can hold up when built right.

150XLT has a eaton charged 5.4 pushing thru a 4r75 and an 8.8 rear end

Klitch has a eaton charged 5.4 pushing thru a 4r70 in a 4X4 and he tows a lot

both are built and well over normal power levels

you can swap in a 4r100 with the appropriate transfer case and drive shafts (from a 7700 series F-150) but the hassle and cost is less than what a built 4r75 conversion would run you
