Dealer in a rural town in NC wants $160.00 for the plugs, $300.00 flat fee, and $92.00 for each broken plug. I changed them under an oak tree last week. Bought the lisle tool and didn't need it.

Dealer here gets $260.00 parts and labor including 1 or 2 extractions. More extractions are billed at actual clock time at $80/hr. I'd assume labor rates are higher in Minneapolis than here.

I was just quoted today something like $300 to $350 plus a half hour for every broken plug. But they recommend spending money on some sort of cleaning process which includes air and fuel filter plus injector cleaning and they say will sometimes loosen up the carbon around the plugs which will help eliminate some plug breakage. This costs something like $120 or $160 (I am sort of not sure I didn't hear both figures at one point. So when I said "So we are talking like $500?" they all agreed that sounded right. But on reflection sounds like more like closer to $600 if none are broken in the process but.... that is in the ball park. I will have to go back over this with them when I leave it and make sure we all are on the same wave length but... This is sort of ridiculous isn't it? For a spark plug change?

Considering the issues, that's not ridiculous.

Just got mine changed a few days ago. The change was $322 plus $70 if either of the rear 2 plugs broke and I think $40 if any other broke. All 8 came out intact.

I'm in western Maryland and got a quote from a local mechanic who has vast experience doing these plugs for $305 flat fee. No extra fee for broken plugs. Going to have them done at the beginning of the year.
