I live in Rochester NY and just got a laughable quote from a dealer to change my plugs out. $5000 worst case scenario and an average of $3200. I think I'd buy a new engine before going there!

That is absurd. You need to report them to Ford.

Beyond absurd... OBSCENE! You need to wear a chastity belt (on backwards for men) in a place like that. Better yet, never set foot into it.

They must be busy lol. Yes, definitely report them.

Consumer # (800) 521-4140

Also, call the number in your owners manual, if different.

Did mine myself. Took a little over 2 hours. The key is to have a good plug socket and every size extension under the sun.. Plus a little WD40

I saved over $250 by doing it myself..

$100.00 labor plus $50.00 for the round trip gas cost to Charlotte and back... My secret mechanic. And that's on a Lightning.

So I posted a while back in this thread about how a dealer here in Rochester, NY wanted $3600-$5200 to do a spark plug change depending on what had to be done to remove them. I called Ford to inquire about this price and they didn't seem to be shocked by the quote. I'm just curious how all you guys are getting these changed for around $300? Anyone know a dealer in the Rochester area or anywhere in upstate NY that would do it for anything below $1000? I told Ford I'd buy a new engine to swap in before I paid anything north of $3000 to get plugs changed!

Come on down here - Fletcher Ford in Joplin does them for $260 with 2 free extractions. Additional extractions are billed at actual clock time at $80 an hour.

I was getting my power steering pump and power steering gear box removed for total of $100 including plugs.
But they persuaded me don't change my plugs if it wasn't misfiring...
So total was $80 only. So I guess $20 for spark plug change??
BTW labor here is around $5 some....

If Ford didn't seem to be shocked by that price ATschorke, I hope they picked up the phone and immediately called that dealer and told them if they ever charged someone that price they'd shut them down! That's ridiculous and Ford should be limiting the dealers price on plug changes to the book rate of 4 hrs regardless if one breaks because of their asinine design. Loyal Ford customers should not have to pay out the nose for a bad design & Ford dealers should get reimbursed by Ford for broken plugs like a warranty issue.

Plugs used to take a 20 minutes to change now 3 or 4 hours. Engine design is a lot better but serviceability sometimes suffers...

Plug change at dealer

I had mine done at a Dealership in NH. when I had 61,000 on it the cost was $182.31 labor $96.00 for the plugs. Non broke, all looked very nice. I had been running Lucas oil products Top end lubricant consistantly with every tank of fuel, Whether or not it helped any with the plug removal is something to think about.

Plugs again

Oh Yeah , I Forgot to mention. I 've had to bring my truck back to the dealer twice since they did the plugs . The first time 10,000 miles later I had a misfire on cyl. 5 , had a broken plug. They replaced it for free. Second time I had a ticking noise. I thought it was going to be the cam phaser on the side that wasnt done. but it wasnt. It was a plug that was working its way out. So how expensive was the plug job? $ 278.31 plus two additional trips back to the dealership. For them to finish the job right.

Well I settled my plug bill and construction invoice last week for my plug job from Feb. He wanted 1100 bucks for plug change ( The mechanic broke all 8!!) and oil, air filter, diffy fluid and tranny fluid change. I figured it was fair as I billed 14 hrs at 65/hr for changing out the hot water exchanger on his boiler. It was his mechanics first Ford Plug job and my first heat exchanger replacement. I am sure a seasoned Ford Tech and a Hydronic Heater tech would have done our jobs quicker but all worked fine in the end so I am happy.
