Rusted Coolant

Just had a head and Catalytic Converter fuel injector, and 4 plugs changed in my truck under warranty at 82K. My coolant is very rusted, and the reservoir seems to be coated on the inside with rust. Anybody have any ideas as to what is causing the rust. I believe they would have put new anti freeze in when they changed the head?

Regards!

Iron block...

No, they would not have flushed your AF unless you told them to and you paid for it. They probably only drained the rad and put the same stuff back in when they were done....

Why would you only change 4 plugs?

Why did you have to change a head and a cat?

Mitch

My truck had this intermittent back fire/ bogging down problem under hard acceleration (passing cars on the fwy). This went on for over a year. The dealer was unable to diagnose as it didn't give any codes. I finally got real tired of it doing this, so I kept my foot on the gas until it gave a code (about a mile). It finally gave a transmission error, and barely limpped off of the fwy. I had to have it towed at 9:30 at night.

All of their diagnosis came up with 1- bad fuel injector, all of the exhaust valves on one head were fried, and the cat was plugged on the same side of the engine. Cost of repairs $ 7k under warranty. They were not going to put new plugs into the new head...I insisted on that. They finally caved!

They wouldn't place the blame on the bad injector though nor would they change all of the injectors, so I had to pay the $ 100 deductable.

Thank the supreme being for the extended warranty! Also had to have a tranny replaced at 51k...I am sure that was about $ 4k, and a heater plenum, which they punctured the A/C system hand had to put in a condensor on their dime. The extended warranty was well worth the $ 2k I paid for it. Unfortunately its up in 4 months/14k miles. I need to get anything/everything fixed that I can.

Mitch- sounds like it had a stuck injector from the parts they changed. I have no idea why the coolant would be extremely rusty. Isn't the LL coolant good for 100k mi or 5 yrs? Doesn't sound like it should be rusty at all at 5 yrs and 82k mi. Once a system is rusty it's hard if not impossible to get it rust free and stay that way. Something not right there.

P.S. I guess I should read all the way to the end before I post!
