Convert a f150 to diesel?

Hey guys im new here but i cant find any info about swapping in a turbo diesel power-stroke into my 2000 F150. i bought it dirt cheap with no motor. I saw people putting in cummins diesels but i want to go the ford route. Would a 2000 f250 turbo diesel fit in and hook up to the tranny? i would prob need the ecu also. unless its a huge project and a 5.4L V8 is easier.

thanks guys
Ryan

I know someone did a v10 swap in that model. That would be sweet!

The PS will weigh about #1000 give or take... The 5.4 probably only weighs some #500 or so...

Not really worth the effort IMO... Go the V10 route as it probably weighs around #600 or so... Or build up a Lightning 5.4...

If you want an oil burner, then get a SuperDuty....

you will smoke a 4R70w if you hook up a 7.3 to it. Even if it would bolt up, but i dont think it would

A Cummins 4BT would be elevenity billion times easier and more practical than a Powerstroke.

Not to say that it would be a drop in swap, far from it, but if you were really demented enough to try, do a 4BT.

Oh, you're stock trans won't survive any swap like what you are thinking... What was the original engine in the F150?? If it was the 4.6, then your rear end is only a little 8.8 and if it was a 5.4, then it would have a 9.75, but you'd want the full float 10.5 inch one from the SD that the diesel came from if you want it to survive as well....

Even a semi float 10.25 rear end would have a hard time with that kind of swap...

o ok it was a 5.4L. I have a lancer that im building as a track car so this truck would be perfect. Im looking for a simple swap, something reliable and easy but if the tranny needs to be swapped and a whole mess maybe ill stay stock. I already have a project car lol. anyone kno where to get a motor at a decent price? i kno junkyards might have some.....

actually how hard is the 4bt swap? and on the stock tranny??

No way....

Way too much torque from a 5.9 Cummins.....

If your puttin a diesel in, do a cummins, but you'd have to get a dif trans. if you wanna do a PS then your going to have to put a solid axle in the front forsure and do away with the ifs. If your truck was a 2000 5.4, it should have the 4r100 transmission, Which was used in super duty applications too. That trans(4r100) will handle a 7three.
It wouldn't be worth it for what you want tho. it gonna require some customization.
I'd put a v10 in...that would be the best option imo.

If you put in the 7.3 I would get a tranny from the SDs with the 6.0's in them.

...maybe. lol now that i'm thinkin about it.

I don't thik that transmission will bolt up plus that won't be cheap. The transmission he's got(if its a 4r100 forsure) will handle the power a 7.3 makes and it will bolt up. They put the 4r100's behind the 7.3 from the factory. I wouldn't spend any money you aint gotta

Just to throw some info into here:

I have a 2000 5.4 and it came with the 4R70W not the 4R100. I'm pretty sure the only 2000's with a 4R100 were the California ones since the 4R100 is better on emissions for some reason.

Secondly, a gas 4R100 will not bolt up to a diesel anyway. I'm almost 100% sure the bell housing bolt pattern is different between the two. The internals are the same, but the bolt pattern differs.

I'd just drop in a 5.4 honestly. It's cheaper, definitely easier because the original motor is a 5.4 in the first place, right? and a 5.4 can pull a single car trailer no problem.

YOu may be right. i had a 98 f150 5.4. it had a E40D, basically the older version of the 4r100, but the same transmission. maybe the bolt patterns are different, but thats why i think he should consider a v10.. Get one of thos for under 2k. Not that much of a price difference between a 5.4 and 6.8...both lightly used

Yeah, I agree a V10 swap would be a good option. Only reason I say 5.4 is that it will be a hell of a lot easier than either a V10 or diesel and will do what the OP needs. But yeah, a V10 will bolt up to a gas 4R100 or a gas 4R70W as far as I know.
