Ford seems to always request their filters etc. Which I think is great. Problems we have with our fleet they use fleet programs and use jiffy lube etc etc. Which I think stinks in overall services. To much turn over in employees and do they really know what they are doing? And what is the quality of their filters and oils? I've also had quite a few 5.4 3v motors with the same problems and frozen bearings on cams etc. Sure would be nice if Ford would come up with another solution to these things its pretty aggrevating with the cost of motors.

WheelinF150,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!! Don't know if you will get this, but I am having this ticking noise, when warm, intermittent and really annoying. Can the suggestions you listed(cleaning oil passages) be done without tearing into the motor. Not a professional, I just don't want to get taken when I take it to get fixed!! You are appreciated!!!!

loud knock in my 2006 F150

I have a 2006 F150 that the number 8 injector stuck open, causiing a vapor lock, The motor only had 48,000 miles on it when this happened. Took it to Ford they said 7500.00$ for a new motor. Didn't do it still driving the truck with a loud knocking noise, so far put 5000 miles on it and no problems yet. I have been told that the lifters are bad, or one of the rods were bent. Any suggestions as to what I should do next. Would love to here them, Thanks.

205 Ford F150 misses while going uphill/lousy fuel mileage

Jethat,

Liked your post and wanted to know if you would comment on the following as I don't know if the problem I am experiencing is related to the same.

My 2005 Ford f150 recently had the plugs changed @ 122000k. I wos told this would help the fuel MPG as well as the power.

now, 2 months after this service was performed, I am experiencing Lousy fuel economy ( barely 10 mpg Hwy). Additionally, while driving 65-70 with the cruise set, it cuts out/misses 3-4 times whenever i start up any sort of grade.

After a couple of these "hiccups", It makes the rest of the grade just fine but starts all over again at the bottom of the next incline.

Took ot to the my local mechanics today who did the previous work and now am being told that it will take several hours of diagnostic work but that it could be anything from a Timing Faser or plugged timing selenoid to needing a complete new engine!!!

Runs great in town and no worning lights have come on. Do you have any thoughts on this ????

Thanks...appreciate any and all comments.

What plugs did you use? Tritons are very picky about plugs Motorcraft are the safe bet. Really sounds like a missfire could be you have a coil thats on its way out. No weird noise? no ticking? Do you change the oil in no more then 5k? do you use motorcraft 5w-20 and a motorcraft filter? or better? There are better motorcraft is base line. Fram filters kill 5.4 3v engnes. I would find a set of coils and put those on it. Again motorcraft are best but even the Chinese made ones would be better then the originals (at this point). You can get motorcraft at Rock Auto at a discount. When it comes to the 3v engine I wouldnt risk letting anyone but a Ford trained service tech screw around with it.

knocking

So I had to do the head gasket on no. 1 bank. Replaced guides cuz they were broken and replaced cam phaser gear. Cranks up and runs ok .all cylinders firing but it sounds like a diesel now. Didn't sound this bad before I tore it down. So clogged vtc solenoids or clogged cavity can cause this... how...how does the oil pressure change timing? 2005 f150 4x4 5.4 Smh

Problems w the 5.4l 3v triton

Hi I happened to see your old post and thought maybe u could help. I bought a used 05 ford expedition xlt. A few wks later the dealership had to replace motor and they put a used 5.4l 3v triton in it. Some months back it started to misfire and loose power but only sometimes, so I had it looked up and replaced a few bad coils . When they went to change the bad plugs though they said it was burning out, water was getting in and frying a few plugs. I am wondering though, if the cam sensors and other stuff u talked about in your post aren't maybe the answer? Not sure if I should have it rebuilt or just buy another used motor??? Opinion??

hey bob, I am looking for some info on the 04 f150 ticking noise. my sounds like a full on diesel running no matter if its cold or hot. I have been told cam phasers and injectors and manifold. just wondering if you have any clue what's going on. Had the cam phasers quoted at $2700. any cheap fixes?

No cheap fixes once the phasers sound that bad on a 5.4 3 valve.

Bob's last post was over 5 years ago, I doubt you will get a response from him.
