93 Not Running, Whats Wrong??
93 Not Running, Whats Wrong??
Alright, i have a 93 f150 with a 5.0. Just swapped out the top end (valve covers and intake) put on an Edelbrock Performer intake off of a fox mustang and now it wont run. I used the original MAS, spark plugs, wires, coil, injectors, sensors, everything. I only put on the 2 aluminum pieces and the valve covers so all of the other stuff is the same as before. It turns over and if u keep the pedal on the floor it will eventually start but its a very weak run, sputtering and what not, smokes white from the back of the motor, and if u touch the gas it dies. It's in time, ive checked all of my connections, all of my vacuum lines, everything. Idk whats wrong. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. From listening to it it almost sounds like its not getting enough fuel. The tanks full, the pump is new, and so is the filter, and the lines are clean, but even if thats the problem that doesnt explain the smoke.
Thanks
And i know it will work because the intake ford released on the Lightning is almost identical

for starters i would have never put a mustang intake in a truck. how much white smoke is it blowing out?(alot or just enough to notice?) smell sweet? whats the coolant level? and is the cel on?

well its a high dollar edelbrock performer intake and it was free from my boss. it was on a junked mustang and he didnt want it. i figured all the hookups were the same. not like flooding the whole truck with smoke, but more than just a little, coolant level is good, yeah i can smell gas a little, and nope the cel isnt on

found a vacuum leak, it now idles but its a little rough, not horrible but its not smooth, still smokes, it has brand new intake gaskets on it, but it didnt smoke before i put the intake on...any possibilities the gaskets are on wrong? idk im lost. im pretty sure i got them right, all the ports lined up. Any advice? i know its water cuz the water level is dropping when i run it. Also there is no water in the oil, ive checked it several times, all the smoke is coming out of the exhaust.

sounds to me like you popped a head gasket. being that you used the mustang intake did you use the throttle body too? if so you may want to make sure that the coolant passage isnt leaking inside it. did you make sure the intake wasnt cracked or anything before putting it on? and where was the vacuum leak coming from?
surely i havent thrown a head gasket, i havent put it through anything since i tore it apart and they were good when i put it int he shop. yeah i used the throttle body, its a single port vs. the dual little ones, tomorrow ill plug them from goign through the throttle body to see as a test. most pictures online dont even have the throttle body coolant hoses hooked up. yeah i checked everything out, pulle dit all apart, inspected it for warping and cracks then painted it all. the leak a was second pcv in the back of the intake i had forgotten about and it was out of sight, i found it when i had to re-pull the intake becuase i had to change the intake gaskets.
ok, i found a problem in the timing, and i fixed a leaking water outlet. also found that the upper and lower plenums werent sealing up and were creating a vcaaum leak, got a nother gasket and everythings back in buisness, idk why it smoked and burned water but whatever ive done has fixed it. thanks guys
