95 fuel pump

It seemed that the front tank fuel pump had gone bad , truck began to run poorly and eventually did not run off front tank . I have been using the rear tank the last year and it runs fine . The problem is the rear tank bleeds back to the front and overflows little by little . Off and on I have flipped tanks and sometimes(2out of 10 times) the thing will run a mile or so on the front tank before dying and I switch to rear and everything is fine . Today I fill the rear tank , 10 miles later the gauge reads 3/4 tank . On the way home I flip to the front and it runs 5 miles before starving out and I switch back to the rear tank the rest of the way .
I am missing an easy fix here or is it what I have been avoiding ? A $300 fuel pump and lifting the bed off the truck . If so I will keep using the rear only .

Thank you
