i have a 1994 f150 5.0 and i want to gut the catalytic convertor and was wondering the best way of doing it and the tools i will need. And also will my gas milage improve????
Just take it off and replace it with straight pipe.
A buddy of mine did hollow out his cats way back when we were in high school and he took the cat off and rammed a pipe thru the center, breaking the ceramic inside and dumping it out and then put it back on... He didn't want his dad to know that he messed with them!! But, the fact that there was fresh welds on the cat was a sure giveaway!
Don't know about the mpg gain, but if they are plugged up, then you should see an improvement... If they are functioning properly and you just want to gut them, then you probably won't see anything significant IMO... Your exhaust sound will be louder however...

I think I'm right that your YM truck has an O2 sensor before AND after the cat. If so, don't expect it to run after you gut it. Gas mileage will drop like a rock too. If you have just one O2 sensor, gut away.
