I have a 97 f150 4.6 . I have noticed the last couple of day the my truck has some oil smoke on start up is there anything else beside oil leaking in the cylinder (bad valve seal, head gasket ect.)
i hope it is nothing serious.
Thank you for your help

Try changing the PCV valve but most likely it's the valve seals. How many miles on the truck? Is the smoke white and sweet smelling or a blueish color? A blown head gasket will give you white smoke and usually a over pressurized coolant system problem. How much oil is the engine consuming between oil changes? If its oil then the engine could run for a long time like this as long as the leak doesn't get severe enough to start causing a miss from fouled spark plugs. It won't do the cats and HEGO's any good as well.

The truck has 185,000 on it . It's white smoke but you can smell the oil in it. It has never used any oil between changes and it's not low now. Thanks again

check pcv valve. A bad one on mine a while back was allowing oil to get into the intake plenum, where it would be sucked in and burnt up. I never noticed any smoke on start ups, only noticed it when I pulled my throttle body and elbow and could see the oil in the plenum.
