Rod Knock?

I have an intermittent rod knock on my 2000 5.4
I only hear it when it is idling but not all the time.
It does not only do this when the truck is cold either.
I checked the four bolts on the flex plate/torque converter and they are all tight.

My first thought was a rod bearing but I would think it would always knock and possibly be a slight knock when the engine was warmed up, or even go away when hot/warm.

Has anyone ever experienced this and if so what was the result?

I do not get any codes but I did recently put the cold air intake on and cleaned the TB. Not sure if the cold air intake has any relationship with this knock but I did not notice it until I put it on the truck.

As always, any help would be appreciated.

Remove the serpentine belt and see if the noise is gone. If so suspect one of the FEAD components. You could always pull the cold air intake and reinstall the original to see if the noise goes away as well. Good luck

Thanks for the advice.
I do know that there is something up with the A/C compressor but I am not sure if it is the clutch or what. There is a metal ring that vibrates around and makes some pinging noice but I was putting it off until summer. I reviewed some other posts and found that the compressor is also used in the winter when you have the heat on so it looks like I either need a new clutch or the entire compressor????
Not sure how that would make the motor knock but it does need to be replaced regardless.

i just had the same symptoms...take off the sepentine belt and see if you can wiggle to fan...mine did the same thing and the water pump was bad, replaced it in about an hour and the problem was gone the hardest part is removing the fan
