2001 Torque Converter
2001 Torque Converter
I have a 2001 F150 that the engine has seized. I purchased a new long block. The problem I have is that some are telling me to make sure the torque converter stays in the transmission via undoing the bolts to the flywheel. But as I said before the engine is seized and I can not turn the crank shaft to access all the bolts for the torque converter. Is it ok to pull it out with the motor and then take out the bolts? Please help, any advice will be greatly appriciated.
Leaving the converter on the trans is ideal but I've pulled seized engines before and left the converter on the engine. You will lose most of the trans fluid out of the converter so expect a mess. The converter has four studs so you'll have 4 nuts to remove that are holding it to the flex plate. Take care.

Just make sure when you put the converter back on the transmission, that you feel in go through 2 solid detents (or clicks) so that it is seated in the seal properly. Then when you bolt the bell housing back on the flex plate meets the converter without pulling the converter forward.
