Missing Hose Question
Missing Hose Question
Gentlemen,
I have this valve under the hood, behind the battery over the RF wheel well. Just got the engine rebuilt but they said there was nothing attached to it. It looks like part of the EGR system but would probably give me a fail for emissions testing. Can anyone tell me what it is and what hose is supposed to be stuck on it? I noticed that there is a hose-sized loop down behind the same wheel (factory) as if that hose would go from this valve and down through it.

BTW, all of that colored looming and bunched-up wires on the starter relay are getting tossed.

id go with GLC almost looks like a breather tube for the front axle to me but i dont know much bout them motors.
GLC knows his stuff id go with that
edit thought you ment the hose with the green around it.

Thank you. Is the missing hose open-ended, and runs down the inner wheel well? It's not supposed go to some filter box or anything like that, is it? Or does it even matter that it's missing, with regards to emissions testing?
i think all that does is pull air from higher *incase ur wheeling* for the smog pump so you dont inject mud intor your exhuast as well. but thats what i think i dont know for 100%
pull it off see if it runs worse if not id say your ok as long as you dont wheel it or get mud or crap by the smog pump

What is at the other end of that hose? It should be the smog pump. If so, I believe that metal can is either a check valve or induction muffler, and the missing hose would go to the clean side of the air filter. I could be wrong because it's been many years since I've dealt with air injection systems, but I think that's how I remember it. I don't know if it will pass emissions or not - I guess it depends on the state and exactly what they inspect.
GLC, I was asking about the missing hose from that large nipple and where it might be connected on the other end. The hose on other (right) side of the valve thing goes to the upper metal pipe running along the side of the engine.
Update:
Okay, after searching pages (and pages, and pages...) of parts, I'm pretty sure this is called a "secondary air dump silencer" that's missing its hose. Does this ring a bell for anyone? And again, if it's just a blow-off muffler for the EGR system, would that missing hose just tuck down the inner-fender? Can someone take a look at their 5.8L engine compartment and give me some insight? The valve/muffler is mounted to the can underneath and just behind the battery on the passenger side.
Side note:
That insulation-wrapped hose (with the green zip tie) is part of a coolant heated camper warming system the PO had on the truck (see those "Y" fittings in the heater hoses?) and it's all been pulled out now.

Yes, I know what you are asking about, and that's why I asked you what the hose coming out the OTHER side of that thing went to. Follow it ALL the way to the end, please. Where does the metal pipe go, and is there anything connected to the pipe? Can you find your smog pump, and if so, what's connected to it? If it's missing, there's your answer........
im almost postive now that i think of it its what you said GLC the missin hose goes into the intake somehow to draw air from the intake into the AIR *Smog pump*
if you dont have to get tested you can just take that crap off. your emission will be slightly higher but not crazy bad. if you have emissions find a hose and get it back into the intake tube.
all that can does is act as a muffler like the IAC mufflers. i had mine off and it hummed i could hear the IAC. i put it back on havnt heard it since. werid how a chamber chunk of plastic can do that.
but if no emissions its fine that way. if you have emissions get a hose back into the intake tube/stream some how.
