Engine Whine?
Over the last couple of years, I have been accumulating a nice set of tools; however, when my son moved out, I being the great dad of the year that I am, let him take a good majority of them to his new place for him to work on his mustangs with, uh, or did I give them to him so he would move out,,,,either way, I am working on a new set of tools now. But to the bigger question, is that the concensus on Lucas products being compared to snake oil? I know its just an opinion, but I always thought that was some good stuff. I have just really started jacking around with the truck and instead of having a good book beside the bed, there sits the shop manual.
Good Luck.
Here's one I purchased that way -
Nice! I would not have thought about buying one off of ebay, mainly due to the risk of it being just as bad as mine might be. However, that is why you look for reliability and buyer reviews. I am hoping for a bad belt ($40 to 50) or a PS pump issue ($60 w/a $20 core) but a $30 alternator off a Romeo crate motor might work as well. Thanks Jbrew! I might look into that.

Why cant these whines sound like a supercharger? At least when my idler pulley was bad it gave a nice high pitched whine that could have sounded like a supercharger. Now I just sit there and feel like everyone is looking over at me, so I just find the closest POS to look at!
i know theres been some people on this site that has said that theyre truck does that every winter. idk if its from the cold weather or what, but i do know that since its been under 30 degrees the last week or two, that my truck makes a strange whining sound when i first start it and until it gets warm.
Yep, right there with you. I was moving my truck in the driveway of my great grandmothers for christmas and the guys of the family were all outside and all said it sounded like crap, and being one of the only fords there, you could garuntee i got the whole "If it was a chevy, it wouldn't sound like that" speeches.
Yesterday, the truck sat in the office parking lot for about 14 hours facing north, what was I thinking. The wind blew and blew and the windchill was way south of 0, when I finally left for the night, talk about some whines. I think everything was whining, including me! Everything quieted down after about a minute, except my problem whine, but the Evo pegged all temps at 0. Aint winter grand?
Took my truck to my buddy's garage and got to really looking. We think it may the tenioner pulley. Got a new one, now just waiting on my cam position sensor (when its one thing, something else happens) to come in and gonna put them both in tommorow. Il let you know we make out.
Well that is something! I was gonna start diggin around tomorrow and see if I could track it down, but that is an interesting find. Please let me know what you find out. How many miles on your 04?

Well, I thought it was funny ( :
The wind blew and blew lol, man! Hillariouse the second time.
Ahh, great! Can't get that out of my fricken head now
Bad news. It wasn't the pulley. Also, was told by Advance Auto that it was my power steering pump. I told him it wasn't just when i turned, but more when i would accelerate. He just kept telling me that it was my power steering, and that to put some stop leak into it. Did that earlier, and to much surprise....didn't work, go figure. Unfortunately, guess next option is the alternator, which i was afraid of since the beginning.
