92 5.0 H.O question

Hey i got a chance to buy a 92 5.0. H.O I want to convert it to Carburation. Was curious if i could interchange an old school distributor on to it? didnt know if the cam gear would work with an older one.

You'll be highly disappointed unless you intend to do a complete rebuild and change everything over including cam and gear.

Well i would love to keep the fuel injection. I just think it would be a pain in the a ss to swap it over with out having a donor car laying around you know. the truck im puting it in used to be a 6 cylinder truck. I swapped the 6 cylinder out and built a radical 306. the cam is just way to big for street use and i need to make the truck a daily driver now so i am pulling the motor and puting a somewhat practical engine in now. What do you guys think i should do?

Scrounge up the stuff in the junk yard.. Carbs are a PITA specially if you have cold weather. That said if you go carb get an Ed performer intake and if you want simple reliability one of there 625 cfm cabs. There based on the old tried and true carter afb design. If you want performance go holly.

You have a roller cam engine that requires a steel driven gear on the distributor. Assuming you can get an "old school" distributor with the right length shaft, be sure to swap the steel driven gear over to it before installing it in the HO engine.

Alright so i decided to stick with fuel injection. I bought a 5.0 H.O that has the engine harness included. All i need now is the computer for the engine correct? Also should a get a fuel pump for a truck with a 5.0 in it or am i going to have to rig up something to get the mustang fuel pump to work?
