tapping sound-passenger underside

Hi Guys,

I have read many threads on ticking, tapping, piston slap, VCT, cam phasers, lash adjusters causing concerns, but I don't think this is what I am experiencing.

2005 F150 5.4L 3v
mods: xcal3 tuner, exhaust system, AirRaid CAI

My truck has a tapping sound (like tapping a spoon on the counter at the beat of the engine) that is most prominent underneath the truck on the passenger side near the Converter. It sounds like the noise is coming from the converter but I can't be certain and I don't know much about them. Any ideas what could cause this? I checked all of the bolts and everything appear to be in tact.

If I rev the engine the ticking just gets faster. Let me know if you guys have any ideas that I could look into. Thanks so much!

you can check for piston slap by disconeting the plug into the COP one at a time while the truck is running. If you can make the ticking stop, you got a bad wrist pin, join the club. The thing with the noise it that it can be hard to tell where it is actually comming from. If you take it into ford, they can put these sensor things(some kind of vibration/noise sensors) on the block and try to pin point the noise. My dealer has these things, but they got a mechanic that loves expensive toys. He normally uses to find "customer reports squeek while driving".

Thanks for your feedback Shepard! I think I'll just take it into Ford to see what they say. Have a Merry Christmas!
