4.6 problems

Hi. New to this sight. I just posted a thread in Chips, Tuners & Programming. It happen to be the wrong place for the post(my bad). Here is what I posted, can you help. Thanks Don
2002 F150 with 4.6ltr., when I first start it up the oil pressure is fine but there is a lot of racket that sounds like it is coming somewhere from the upper part of the internal engine. After about 5 minutes the oil pressure drops to zero. I have been told that there is diaphragms that oil the timing chain and they could be what is leading to the noise and oil pressure problem. Has anyone else experienced this or no what I need to do, should I drop the oil pan and inspect the bearings or oil pump? Could use some advice..

Well it sounds like you have a few things going on. First does the noise that you hear last for five minutes or longer or does it start right away and then stop? Then after 5 minutes the oil pressure drops? When the gauge drops indicating low oil pressure does the noise come back again or does the engine remain quiet/normal? When the pressure drops do you stop the engine or continue to drive with no noise or problems? Is the noise more prevelant behind the front cover or directly under the cam covers? What type of oil filter are you using and how many miles on your engine? Answer all these questions and we'll get you some ideas on what is going on.

Unhappy Timing chain guide broke

The truck has the 4.6 Romeo engine and I use Motorcraft oil filters. I found the problem, I pulled off the oil ban and seen a lot of brass and grit in the oil. After further inspection I found that the timing chain guides on the passenger side of the engine had broke. The fragments had got into the oil pick up screen and caused my oil issue. I pulled off a rod bearing cap and found the bearing was pretty scared up. So now I am just going to find another motor (salvage) and do an engine swap.

Thank's for the feed back.
