2004 5.4 in limp home mode

No DTC's. I've repaired and cleared them all. It's still in the limp home mode. Front two cats are gutted. Could the gutted cats be causing the problem? Secondly, is there a way to disable the cat monitoring?

I do not think there is a way your ECU can tell if there is platinum in the cats or not. Any dash lights going off? What were the DTC's before you cleared them?

do any of the gauges read different than normal? any pending codes? anything different at all? do you have any way to view what the sensors are telling the pcm?

no

Secondly, is there a way to disable the cat monitoring?
yes by turning the rear o2's off with a tune

All gauges are normal.

Codes were:

P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)

P0174 - System Too Lean (Bank 2)

P2006 - Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

P2126 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch E Circuit Range/Performance

P2127 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch E Circuit Low

I replaced the TPS and loaded the right tune to get rid of the lean condition. Any ideas?

Did you fix the IMRC?

No, the code cleared when I replaced the TPS and it hasn't come back. From what I've read on here it sounds like IMRC is only an issue at higher RPM's anyway and is unlikely to be causing the safe mode.

One thing I forgot to mention though, it whistles at idle. It's a very high pitched whistle, extremely annoying, and it stops when you apply any throttle. It sounds like it's coming from the intake but it's hard to say for sure.

Vheck all vacuum lines and any ducting in the intake area. Any unmetered air will definetly cause a drivability issue

New DTC's

Ok, driving to get coffee a couple codes popped up but not very helpful.

P0171 P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

I haven't had time to check for vacuum leaks yet, but with the gutted cats it makes sense to me that 420 and 430 popped up. There was an error when I changed the tune yesterday but I thought it loaded anyway. I'll have to double check and make sure that I'm not still stock. If the tune didn't upload correctly and I'm still stock that along with the AF1 CAI and being in limp mode would explain the lean condition.

Any further thoughts other than checking for vacuum leaks?

Evap and Catalyst Monitors not complete

When I pulled the codes it also said that the evap and catalyst system monitors were incomplete. This also seems normal with the gutted cats. Am I wrong?

Just on a fresh reboot, it takes awhile for that monitor to complete. In-fact it has to fail 3 duty cycles to spit out a DTC if there's a problem.

Gutting the front cats doesn't influence if the rears are intact. UNLESS, you have leaks. Leaks will cause problems.

The wrench light is on, it has no power, it idles pretty rough and it sounds like it's missing under any acceleration.

take it to the dealer and see if there are any flash updates for your pcm. how many miles are on it? have the plugs ever been changed?
