2004 5.4l oil usage?

Hello all,

I noticed that my 2004 with 5.4 is using about 1/2 quart (maybe little more) oil per 3000 miles. Wondering if this is fairly normal. Is it due to the 5-20 oil?

Thanks for any thoughts...

Very normal. I'd say that's very low usage.

Ford does not consider oil usage excessive till it's a quart every 1000 miles. I'd be concerned if it used ZERO oil, that tells me that the oil may not be getting to all the places where it's needed.

Thanks,

The truck only has 33000 miles so I was unsure if it was normal...

My 2000 5.4L that I bought new used a qt every 2500 miles until it had 80k miles on it. Then it would go 5k miles and be a pint low. Sometimes Fords take a long time for the rings to seat!

Thanks again!

I feel much better after reading all the responses. I plan to keep my truck for a very long time and was worried about possible costly repairs...

These forums are GREAT!!!!!!
