Question Which starter? 99 4.6 into 97

totaled my 99 f150 with 96000 (bought back from ins for $114) found a nice 97 with bad motor, both have 4.6 w vin. the motors have different starters. which would i use. are they matched to the bell housing, flywheel? I assume the block would be the same. Basically all the wiring appears to be the same except for the 2 coolant sensors on the 97 which the harness willl switch over and sensors will mount in holes already tapped in 99 intake. 8 rib serp match on both. any other bits of advice would be great.

The W code is Romeo build. I think either starter will work they made a change sometime in that time frame to the main starter cable. It was a change for the better cost wise. The original 97 cable/harness was around $130.00 versus the change in late 97 models which was around half that I believe. Everything should mix and match between the two engines if memory serves me. If they are both truck engines you could even use the 99 intake on the 97 if you wanted. One thing I would consider if you don't already have it is to install a remote oil filter on the replacement engine before installation, Makes it a whole lot easier changing the oil filter for you on these trucks. Sounds like a good deal for you. Good luck.
