Need help with motor problems
I have an 04 F150 with the 3valve 5.4v8. It currently has 96,765 miles on the original motor and a couple things are beginning to worry me. The first one is a rattle upon startup it used to only happen after the truck has set long enough for the motor to cool off but now it's beginning to rattle almost everytime I start the truck. It's hard to describe the rattle but it only last's about a second and sounds like it's coming from the drivers side. Also my camphasers have been making the diesel clattering sound like most members have had problems with on their trucks. The two noiseshaven't really been causing any concern to me since they seemed like a common problem on here and I haven't read anything about them having any long term problems but now my truck is beginning to use a quart of oil between 3,000 mile oil changes and the oil is a dark brown color when I change it. Before the truck would never use a drop of oil and the oil alway's looked as clean as it did in the bottle. Although I have noticed these problems the truck still runs perfect and strong. It alway's cranks easy, never emits any smoke or showing signs of oil loss on the exterior of the block. I have alway's changed my own oil at 3,000 miles and use motorcraft oil and filters. I don't drive like an old man but my truck rarely sees 4,000 rpms. When it does it's only to pass someone or my speeddemon inside wanting to go fast. I have only pulled a trailer 4 times with this truck with the longest trip being 20 miles and the max weight maybe around 2,000lbs. I know that **** happens and not every truck will see 200,000 miles without a major breakdown but I don't see any reason why this motor would be ready for retirement at such a young age. Can someone please give me some advice? Thanks!
