what kind of noise? if it is a squeal then replace the belt.

could be some other things but it's best to start with the belt and go from there.

Noise like that on startup is a slipping belt, a pulley with a dry bearing, or the fan clutch.

Remove the belt and start it. If it's quiet, shut it down and turn all the pulleys by hand and see if you can feel one that is sticky or feels rough.

If you are VERY careful, you can use a mechanic's stethoscope to try to narrow down exactly where the noise is coming from.

you could use a mechanics stethoscope to find it available at a local harbor freight for a few dollars or the old long screw driver trick to find the squeeler. my bet is going to the the ac compressor I have seen the bearing go on many of those. I had to replace the same thing on my 99 f150 for the same reasons and it was a pain in the butt to do. and it sounds like I will be doing it on our 00 expedition soon as it is starting to give the squeel. some have had the bearing go in the idler pulley as well. just give the stethoscope thing a try to be sure.
