What would cause.....

What woudl cause a fuel injector to go bad after 4,000 miles? I have an 06 5.4 litre that just had injector #5 replaced today at 18,000 miles. Back in April I had injectors #2 and #5 replaced at 14,000 miles.

Last week, I had the truck in and they replaced a check ball valve as the transmission was bogging down. The check ball valve solved the issue...but the very next day.....it was hard starting and rough idle and was making some "pinging" noises.....so I took it back in today.

They put it on the scanner and it showed P0300, P0305 and P0316.

Right now it starts fine and idles fine...but I still hear the pinging under acceleration. At this point...I am not too concerned the noise....I am just not sure if I should look forward to replacing an injector every so often. My warranty is up in February of next year.

Any feedback is appreciated.

ford had a bad batch of injectors in the 05 5.4 that are showing up in 06's as well. when they replaced the #2 and 5 they probably ended up pulling all the injectors to test them all and ended up moving them around which is why #5 was replaced again, but i could be wrong. does the pinging go away if you use a higher octane gas?

Thanks for the quick reply....

I am going to run it around tomorrow and fill it with higher octane gas. Hopefully that will take care of the pinging noise.

I am also hopeful that you are correct in that they moved the injectors around when they replaced them in April.....I am highly concerned that the same injector went again.
