Front fuel tank full but useless

I have an 89 F150 with dual tanks and 242,000 miles. The rear tank runs fine but when I switch to the front it stalls out on me within a matter of 30 secs to a minute. The front tank is full and putting the key to the on position gives temporary power to the front pump to prime it but that's all. Rear pump is fine so relay is not an issue. Trying to troubleshoot before I dive into fuel pump replacement. Please help.

is the tank rusty/dirty inside? when it stalls does it restart? does yours have 3 fuel pumps?(2 low pressure in tank pumps and 1 high pressure on the frame rail?) sounds like the front pump is weak or overheating.

I have a '94-F150 4x4 Xlt and 175,000 miles and my rear tank would not even power up-I dropped the tank and now my front fuel pump won't power up. Any suggestions? It sucs but I know you don't want to get into it but you will probably have to. Good luck!!

Apply 12V to the front pump. If it runs continuously & the engine runs, replace the switch on the dash. If neither runs, replace the pump.

If it runs, but the engine doesn't, click my black Bronco in my sig & read the captions in the '84-89 Fuel Reservoir album.
