Is a 4.6 a 4.6 or not

Ok i have done some reading about 4.6s. I understand that 97 to 03 are the same motor with the exception of the PI heads. What about an 04 4.6. Is it going to fit in a 98 f150 4x4 5 speed manual tranny and hook right up or will it require mods to existing set up. I can get a sweet deal on the motor that is in a 04 f150 4x4.

yes, it will. no problems just use all the stuff from the original engine on the donor and it will bolt right up. the only time there are problem s is if the donor is from a car, the car 4.6s and truck 4.6s have different intake manifolds. you should be good to go.

04's are fly by wire throttle body. I think you'll have to swap intakes but it should bolt up...

I should clarify ... i am gettin whole motor ... manifolds and all .. all the parts and pieces i need right out of the 04 truck. Only addition will be long tube headers as i already have cold air intake ... high flow cats and exhaust. Only thing i am aware i really have ot do is get a port drilled in the intake to accept the second temp sensor ..... othe rthan that nothing that i am aware of .. or am i totally off base

The 04's dont have a throttle cable set up.. fly by wire.. you will need to change the manifold to a 2000 up one because they changed the heads in 99 or so. Your intake off your old truck wont work.

The 04 engine uses an electric motor to open and close the butterfly valve in the throttle body. If it fits you will need to use your 97 throttle body. You will also need to fab mounts for the throttle and cruise cable.

also keep your stock transmission, because the 04 is fully electronically shifted transmission, so it wont work with your current computer setup
