Battery Light flickers when revving over 4k

Yesterday while pulling my Holiday trailer I experienced an interesting thing in the truck. Going up a hill with the trailer (4000lbs) the revs went over 4k and the charge light came on intermittently. I figured that this was due to the trailer there and the charge line on the trailer being used etc. However, the same thing happened to me while just driving the truck. Does this mean my Alternator is on the outs? any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Is this in a 1971 truck with what engine? Could be a loose connection. Those old dummy lights are just that..

I had the same condition when my alternator went. It batt light started flickering at high rpms, then flickered at lower and lower rpms till it stayed lit and the alternator quit.

battery light flicker would be due to an alternator problem. Get it checked out at a shop

Is it a 130 amp or 90 amp? I would go for the 130 if buying new.

There are "brushes" also known as rotator contactors that conduct power to the Rotator Field Coil.
At the last term of life of the alternator they have worn down so low that they don't make sufficient contact with the contactor rings.
This is particularly true at high engine rev speeds. Remember your alternator is spinning at three times the engine r/m. (minimum)
It is just the last sign that your Alternator needs replacement.
There have been times that I could "re-furbish" a similar unit if I could get similar brushes and place them into the alternator. Unfortunately it's messy work and considering an available warranty I would replace that unit a.s.a.p.

Take it over to Autozone and get the battery and alternator tested. It's free, and they do it on the car.
