Exclamation Engine swap between an 03 F150 and a 99 F150

Need to know what extra stuff needs to be paid attention to when doing a swap between these two years. They are both 5.4's but we are unsure to whether we need to swap anything other than the motor. My boss has a complete drive line out of a 99 with only 67000km on it all so we would like to swap it over to his 7700.

The search engine or my computer won't let me search just 5.4L Swap so any input is great!!

they are both PI motors so you should be good to go, just keep the same PCM on the car so you dont have a PATS issue with the 03

Thanks patman! your a hero lol but we dont have the PCM or anything. Just the drive line itself. Guess he got it off a guy who toasted the truck while drunk with no insurance and owed someone money type situation. Good to know, but with the PATS issue what do we need to do to avoid it? reflash the pcm?

if you have a running truck as is right now, just pop the new engine/trans in and keep the PCM with the truck.

You might want to have the dealer reset the transmission settings tho.

Wait you said a 7700? So it probably has a 4R100 transmission. Im a little confused on what vehicle getting what, but you would need to keep the transmission in the working truck if one is a 4R100 and other is a 4R70W

Yep,- just the engine, the 7700 has an awesome trans. I have the E4OD/4R100 which is pretty much identical to the 7700 your speaking of..-EXCEPT mines @ 264,000 miles and will still pull stumps from the ground

What's wrong with the 03 engine? Selling it?

The 03 has many miles 300k or so... and 6 out of 8 plugs are heli-coiled in the heads lol. The 03 is getting the new heart and he has a motor, trans and diff's out of a 99 but that is all, so we will most likely need to go to the dealership and have it adjusted.

If you just swap in the motor out of the 99,,your done! Nothing else should need to be changed.

Yea , it would be a PITA and quite a bit of cash using/converting computers to run the 4r70w from the 99. Didn't you go from 4r70 to 4R100 phil?

UNLESS - The 99 has a 4R100 ? In 98 , the tow/off-road package for the 5fours included the E4OD/4R100 which was the last year for the E4OD all together. In 99 they went 4R100 which only had minor electrical upgrades, then basically stayed the same to 03. Anyway in 99 there was quite a few 1/2 ton trucks that had the 4R100 option. He might have one, if that's the case.....
