rpms running high
rpms running high
i dont know if this is a problem but i have noticed that when my truck has been sitting for a while or sitting over night, the rpms run high after i start it and then they take like 5 minutes or so of idle to get down to 800 to 900 rpms.
is this normal or should i get something checked out or is there a part that can be replaced?
ps my CEL has been on for a while but its just my egr valve. could that be it?
what is this? please help

Well your truck is made to run higher rpm's while it is warming up from the cold start. You will notice your rpm's will be much lower at idle when your truck is up to warm operating temperature. However, idling at 800-900 rpm's(while at warm operating temperatures) means that there is something wrong. Your truck should idle right in the area of 750rpm's with the A/C on at warm operating temp. I would go get those codes looked at again, because it probably has something to do with IAC or throttle position sensor. You need to get them re-read to make sure. Also, you should try to knock out the EGR problem while you are at it. Running your truck with-out EGR is in no way a good thing. Your engine is designed to use and need it. Good thing about it is that the EGR system on your truck is really simple.
You need to get those codes re-read and then we will be able to help you more. To answer your question.. its very normal for there to be higher rpm's at start-up. Its when your truck always idles high even after being at proper operating temp that you have to worry about it.
