Exclamation Which engine do I have?

I own a 2003 f150 super crew lariat with the 5.4 triton v8. My question is this, do I have the 3v that has the disasterous breaking plugs or do I have the 2v that spits plugs? If I have the 2v is there a better plug than the factory ones that will keep it from spitting a plug? Either way this 5.4 seems to be a pain in the posterior. I need to know in case I have to buy the broke plug tool.....

Yours is a 2V. In 2003 they changed the head design to include more threads in the head so yours may have the better heads. Do a search, there is a lot of reading. Most people swear by the factory plugs in the 2V. They switched again in 2004 to 3V heads that you can't get the plugs out of and used those until mid 2008 and then switched back to a more traditional plug design that seems to work the way it should.

Use Motorcraft SP-series plugs, no antiseize, and torque them to 28 ft/lb regardless of which heads you have.
