Pacesetter shorties on 97' 4.6?

Well my egr tube rusted completley off of my manifold and I figure instead of replacing the manifold just putting on a set of these pacesetter shorties. Looks as if they come with everything I need http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Question is does anyone run these on here? And are there better options for around the same price?

No performance gains to be had with short headers. I would just see what a new manifold would cost. See if you can scrounge up a decent used one maybe. or go with longtube. They have been dynoed to gain as much as 30 hp. Much more expensive though..

At that price ,why not. You might pick a couple or few HP and have some fun. Long tubes are much better for performance, but require quite a bit of exhaust modification. Use these:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/STG-8906/

Yeah i didnt really wanna re-do my exhaust since i just had it put on a month or so ago, so not much performance gain is what i've been reading..do they make the exhaust sound different or deeper?

I have JBA shorties and they are just louder, not necessarily a better sound, but louder.

you should see some minor gains with the shorties but, long tubes you would see alot more...

The stock manifolds aren't worth replacing unless you luck out and find them at a junk yard for cheap as hell, but even then, you need to buy the hardware Onelow posted a link to for about $50 w/shipping so even if you happen to find the headers at a junk yard for 20-$25 then you are still looking at about $100 plus the time you spent searching for the bastards. Just buy these which already come with the hardware:

They are the same headers you were about to pay more for on ebay. That is what I did when my stock manifolds broke on me. You shouldn't see any performance difference but they are the cheapest/easiest route to go to replace the stock ones...and hey, at least you will be able to tell people that you have headers on your truck right?

Btw

Make sure you at least try to get that fitting off which screws on between the egr tube and the manifold (I am assuming there is one on the 4.6 like was on my 5.4) or you will need to pay the dealer a fortune for it or search a few junkyards for a manifold you can take it off of (what I did). But I wouldn't spend too much time on it because if it doesn't come off after a few GOOD trys then it is probably so rusted/"welded" on by the heat over the yrs then it aint budging, cause I tore mine beyond recognition trying to remove it. Just try to take a large wrench to it while the manifold is bolted to the engine, cause it aint happening once the entire thing is off the truck...might try to heat it w/a torch or freezing it.

oh and when I say same headers, I mean that they were actually the Pace Setter brand headers that they sent me in the mail when I ordered them...
