tick when engine runs

whenever i have my truck on, theres a tick that you can clearly hear from even inside the truck. it sounds like its more on the drivers side of the engine. the truck never has a problem starting up or anything. a few friends have told me they think its a lifter tick...does anyone have any info on this?

not that i am an expert, but it could also be your injectors if the sound is describable as a "tick". If its a "tap" where it sounds like metal to metal contact then I would say yes to lifters, but listen to other members much more knowledgeable than me As a suggestion, go to youtube and search for people who have posted videos of similar problems. Sometimes the noise a motor emits makes it very easy to diagnose. Good luck!

hmm. thinking about it, it actually could be described as maybe a tap...it does sound like metal. actually, it sounds like two very thin metal sticks being tapped together very rapidly. but that makes it sound like a tick to me...lol idk maybe i should just post a vid.
thanks

Could be a leaky exhaust manifold too... Similar sound for sure. Does it go away any after it warms up?

My passenger side manifold is leaking pretty good now... It ticks on start up and for a couple of minutes until it warms up. Starting it up after it's sat for even a couple of minutes will bring the tick back until the manifolds heat up again..

I've got a busted manifold stud that's causing the grief, but just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet..

Good luck!

Mitch

no, it does not go away when it warms up. when im sitting in traffic next to another car and my window is down, i can hear the tick coming from my truck echoing off the car next to me. ive noticed that it starts off as a really rapid tick, then it will slow down a bit.
