4.6L Romeo

I am new to this site however i spent almost three hours today reading and trying to make sense of an answer that is most likely right in front of me. I have a 2003 F150 with a 4.6 Vin W (Romeo) that will need replacing( no oil pressure and rattling like a singer machine). Is it true only a 2002-2003 will work? After a lot of searching from what i can tell any 4.6 romeo may work or i can do the whole swap for a 5.4. I have found a 4.6 Vin W (Romeo)from a 2006 F150 with low miles. Anyone know what needs to be done to have this work or a site where i can obtain this information? Any help is greatly appreciated.

only 99-03 f150 4.6L V8s are a direct engine only swap anything other then that will be more complicated.

the trucks got pi heads in 01 for the 4.6 and in 99 the 5.4 got them. the mustangs and cv's(i think) got the pi heads in 99. as long as you have the truck intake for the pi heads then you wont need to modify anything. the car intake is made for top end power where the truck intake is for bottom end power. any 5.4 2v will bolt right in as well but you'll want the 5.4 harness and a tune for it.

if you want that 06 4.6 then i'm pretty sure you'll need your intake and throttle body due to the 06 had the drive by wire system(no throttle cable) and it had updated heads so you'll need the spark plugs for that engine.

all 2V modular V8s got PI heads cams and intakes in 99 even the trucks, so any 99-03 4.6L will work with out any problems.

So based on JimmysotherFord reply a 99-03 is a direct swap if it is 4.6 romeo, if i swap the 2006 4.6 Romeo i need to change intake and throttle body.....seems a mere pentence for a low milage affordable engine....think i will start this journey...thanks guys

the trucks got pi heads in 99 for the 5.4, but the 4.6 didnt get them until 01 in the trucks. the cars with the 4.6 got the pi heads in 99.

Matt and Phil
If i am staying with the 4.6 Romeo just going with a newer year, i don't have to worry about the heads do I? Only thing I need to do is change intakes and throttle bodies is what i picked up from Matt's post earlier today. Thanks for your williness to educate me. Darrell

If I understand correctly,
you can get the 06 4.6 , take your current intake manifold,(the hole assembly.Throttle body and all) put it on the 06. Drop it in,hook it up and go.

You may want to consider installing a remote oil filter kit while the engine is out of the truck. Those oil filters can be a real pain removing without it. I would also change the rear main seal while its out and make sure you have the correct oil pressure sending unit as well. I'm not clear if the replacement engine is from a car or truck. Good luck.
