Bad fuel pump?
Bad fuel pump?
on my 99 f150 with the 4.6, we have been having troubles with it starting...a lot of the times, it would start once..but then not again. like if we drove to the corner store and turned the truck off, it wouldnt start again and we had to tow it home...but a couple hours later, we go out to start it and it would start up. now the problem seems to always happen...it will never start. so i am thinking it is a bad fuel pump...because:
1. you cant here the fuel pump kick on when you just put the key in (we can here it in my 97)
2. i disconnected the fuel line before the filter and there is nothing coming out...not even when we are cranking it.
i have checked the wireharness connector and messed with it also. we checked the relay and the shut off button in the cab.
is there anything else i should try before buying a new fuel pump and having to put it in?
also, what is the easiest way to get to the fuel pump? take the bed off? or maybe just slide the bed back? it doesnt seem easy to drop the gas tank because it is full of gas...
let me know what yall think.
Thanks

nope...we actually just did it. didnt even scratch the cab. me and my dad got on each side of the bed at the wheel wells and just lifetd it high enough to go over the bumper and slid it back. really was easy. just had to go through and disconnect all the wires...like 3 connections really (tail lights harness and the 2 license plate lights) and then the gas tank filler tube (3 screws) and we were good to go. we left the bed sitting on the tires because we just needed enough room to work. then the fuel pump was really easy. everything works now and that was definetly our problem. well worth the 2 hours we spent on it.
