Now what

I just put new coils on my 98 expedition yesterday and that solved my problem. Now anti freeze is pouring off of the starter from somewhere unreachable by a human hand. It's not coming from the heater hoses or anywhere else I can see or get my hand near. I took the passenger wheel liner out and still can't get anywhere near it(but i can see exhaust manifold studs broken off. nice.) Any ideas?

freeze plug. Or you broke a hose the one on the right side of the throttle body. Did this start after you worked on it? if so I would think its that hose and it leaking down the intake and draining out by the starter. might just be loose. Check it really good.

i don't suppose the freeze plug can be done with the engine in. Another thing that occurred to me was that instead of having a foot long rad shroud ford could have set the engine six inches further forward to make things easier on an engine that needs constant attention. that right rear coil is miserable to get to! sorry. i'm venting.

Something else just occurred to me. Why would i have coolant lines next to the throttle body to break? That high up?

Their easy if you do it right the first time. But that takes time , now you screwed up the heater hose in back I bet. Now it's going to be twice the time lol. Oh well, live and learn.

thanks tumba. i need to post pics of my bleeding forearms and biceps from trying to reach the back of my engine to show what a genius i am. body men have no business getting greasy. i'm gonna stick to sanding if this fiasco ever straightens out. wish i had a mechanic i could trust.

On the 98's you take the MEGA fuse / harness plug cradle loose , take two tie downs and pull it back out of the way. Takes just a few minutes, but leaves you all kinds of access room to #4.

BTW- Those heater hoses become soft right at the clamp and there's a brass reducer inside the hose that keeps it under constant pressure. Hence why they leak if their touched or rubbed. Ask Tumba, he knows what can happen when you rub things wrong

I had to do mine over 3 times inside of two weeks , -working 80 hrs per week once

That was quite awhile ago and it was because I installed Autolite plugs. It wouldn't stop misfiring

thanks jbrew. i'm gonna dig back into it tomorrow after work. my main goal is the engine staying in the truck. btw- i moved the mega fuse brackets and still couldn't get the room i wanted. I ended up evacuating the a/c and pulling the lines. might be the rear climate controls causing my clearance issues. and tumba and his eraser had nothing to do with it.

- Yea, but later on he admitted to rubbing them lol.

I wouldn't dare touch the AC lines. That's just crazy. But I make plenty of room and remove the easy stuff.
