Is it ok to switch? high mileage to syntec blend?
112,000 miles 2000 f150 5.4. been using castrol gtx high mileage, is it ok to switch to the castrol syntec blend withotu and problems? will the syntec blend clean a little better? also if i did switch will it still be good to ru nthe Motorcraft filter with it? thanks
Since 112,000 ISN'T high mileage for a modular motor, I would say yes.
and arent high milage motor oils basically synthetic blends IMO if your gonna use a synthetic blend might as well use full synthetic

i know a guy that put 3 or 4 completely different oils in his engine at once. he has a 95 f350 5.8 5 speed. the guy didnt finish school and couldnt read but he always brought his own oil for an oil change and he'd have something like a qt of 5w20 full synthetic, 2 qts 5w30 syn blend, a qt 15w40 regular oil, and you get the point. sometimes they were the same brand and sometimes they were 4 different brands. he never had an engine blow up on him though. his truck is still running with almost 150000 miles(last time i saw it). he did the same thing with all his farm tractors.
I changed over at 71K and at 92K i blew the motor(detonation - Nothing to do with oil) and when i took it apart it looked brand new and i mean brand new!

You tell me.
It's the switch with high mileage vehicles I'm referring to.
It depends what your switching from and/or how dirty the internals are. With over 100,000 miles, - it matters.
Full Synthetic is Good Stuff alright, but you may want to flush her first depending on the situation.

just keep using the motor craft synthetic blend. its cheap and actually lasted longer between changes than valvoline, quaker state, and mobil full synthetics i use to spend lots of money on.
