Hold your hand about 2 inches from the tailpipe when you start it, then look at your hand to see what it's blowing out.

Head gasket or intake manifold gasket is probably leaking antifreeze in your motor.

An '08 and ford just put a USED motor in it? What's the deal there? If you're smelling "sweet", you've got a coolant leak SOMEWHERE. It doesn't take much of a leak to smell sweet, sometimes they're hard to find even, they can be so small. I don't like the sound of what you're saying. I hope for your sake that that engine isn't a trash can case. If you smell the "sweet" in the wet exhaust, it's getting in the combustion system somehow.

Probably not worth the effort, sounds like you've got bigger problems there, but the way to tell if you have coolant leak into the cylinders is take the plugs out 1 by 1 when it is WARM YET (as in just shut off) and hold a make-up mirror or mechanics inspection mirror right over the plug hole. It will fog up immediately on the cylinder(s) that have the leak. If they put an '08 motor in that '08 (as they should), it will have the new 1 piece plugs and new style heads so you won't have to worry about breaking the plugs off when you take them out quickly to check for coolant.

Any kind of warranty? I'd get it back there ASAP.
