IAC question
The "drive by wire" phrase is used with the meaning of electronically controlled throttle actuation/idle through the electronic throttle body;
therefore, there is no need for an Idle Air Control valve.
The 2000 F-150 with any factory engine/trans configuration, is not "drive by wire" in the context referred to in the previous reply. It has an accelerator cable to manually open the throttle plate. The IAC's duty cycle will increase when the throttle position sensor "sees" a closed throttle, sustaining idle speed to the programmed threshold in the PCM.

Rough idle
So here is my other question. I have been dealing with a rough idle ever since I bought the truck. I have replaced spark plugs, cleaned the maf sensor, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the pcv valve, and checked the air filter and it is clean. Can anyone give any more suggestions or ideas to why it still idles rough? Also, I have checked the rubber hoses near the back of the throttle body to see if they were cracked but they appear fine. The truck only has 36,000 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
i didnt think your truck had a pcv valve? or is it only the 5.4 3v that doesnt? are there any codes? vacuum leak? is the truck 2 or 4 wheel drive? if 4 wheel drive, does it have the shift on the fly?
But in this case, you don't even have to do that. Keep reading...http://www.epa.gov/otaq/consumer/warr95fs.txt

The truck is 2wd stx model. it does not have check engine light on. i took it to ford and they hooked it up on their scanner and they said nothing was wrong with it. they said it was supposed to idle this way. i could possibly have a vacuum leak but wouldnt know how to check that. i don't have the 5.4 3v, i have the 4.6, so would the injectors still apply?
If they gave you a completed repair order that says it's OK, you're covered. If anything happens later on, you can submit that document as proof that it's Ford's responsibility. If you do anything else to it, and something goes wrong, it's your fault & they won't cover it.
the injector issue was only with the 05 5.4 3v engine. its still a posibility but i dought yours would be an injector issue. how rough is the idle? what rpm does it idle at/around?
ok so the only problem is a rough idle? no misfire under acceleration or anything? any cel? unplug each coil one by one with the engine idling and see if the engine runs different or not. if it doesnt run differently after unplugging a coil then shut engine off and pull the coil and plug for that cylinder. does it have any aftermarket parts on it?(K&N filter? throttle body? intake? etc) does it have a tuner in it?
yes only problem is a rough idle, no cel, no misfire under acceleration, etc. i just changed out the spark plugs yesterday, i put in motorcraft platinum, seems to be running betting but still has rough idle. the engine is completely stock. no tuner
