Truck "knocks" at stop
My truck recently started to "knock" (almost like it wanted to die) when i come to a stop only when it was hot, meaning i probably drove it for around 10 miles or so before it would do it. Then all i had to do was put it in neutral and give it gas and it would quit. i replaced the IAC around a year ago. i took it to auto zone today and got the codes: p0022, and p0305, could the two be directly related? i have recently changed the oil, royal purple 5w20, motorcraft oil filter, and have 90k miles on the truck. i have the code definitions, i'm just looking for a little help with how to approach the issue beginning with the simple stuff first, as i am no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, dont mind trying a few things just nothing too major. thanks guys
The P0305 is a #5 misfire. With 90k, it's time for spark plugs and maybe coils. Be aware of the plug breakage issue when you get them changed. This is not a trivial procedure. The P0022 is a camshaft timing issue - which is a whole other can of worms.
I have an extended warranty which covers me up to 100K miles, i have yet to use it so i guess i will have to take it to the dealer. I know they wont cover the spark plug issue, and i have read the tsb for replacing them, just have been putting it off......

anything can be a DIY job as long as you have the tools. which i believe autozone carries the cam phaser tools now.

both are pretty good oils. how often do you change your oil? if the oil sludges up then it could cause the timing chain tensioners to lose tension because they are hydraulically controlled.
and just an fyi, there is no iac on your truck.

Matt, i replaced the whole throttle body, if i remember correctly i think that was the code it gave when it was acting up. thanks for the info on oil sludge though. i did watch the video i saw in previous post at flatratetech.com and i know see why to use the motorcraft filter....
That being said there are very few people on this forum qualified to do such a jop.
