Starter Cable Question

I have an 2004 F150 XLT 4x4, my starter went out, or so I thought, got underneath and noticed the starter cable end had come completely off from corrosion, I think I can fix the end, anyone had any success in doing that before, any tips? Swapping out the entire starter cable sees like a huge job, and I prefer not to tackle that, just looking for anyone who has tried it before.

Thanks,
Tim

My 97 F-150 had the same problem. The early new model Heritage F-150's have a starter cable that runs a round $135.00, later models to my understanding were a lot less expensive. Being cheap I went to an electric supply store and bought a "lug" that was large enough to fit over the cable end that was broken. I then soldered the lug onto the cable and reattached it to the starter. I put shrink tube over the soldered connection to prevent new corrosion. That was 4-5 years ago and it still works. Of course now I just jinked myself and it proberably won't start tomorrow. Good luck.

I fixed it. I cut off the cable boot and then cut the cable, then I used a power cable tool from my work, I work for an automotive company, and put an batter cable end on it, and then wrapped the entire end in electrical tape, put it back on the starter and it fired right up. Saved me a bundle of money...

Thanks for the advice.
