Low grade missfire. If your not getting an check engine light you'll have to take it in to have the affected cylinder identified.

mileage? has it ever been tuned up? fuel filter ever been changed? has the motor ever gotten wet?
maybe an injector. 05 5.4 3v's had a bad batch of injectors and some of them were put in the 06's i'm not sure about 04 but maybe. 05 was the only year with the extended warranty on the injectors so far.

How many miles is that? Filter really needs to be changed about every 20,000 or so. You would be surprised at what comes out of that thing.

The quick math (easy to remember) kilometer's X .62 (roughly 90,520 miles)
Long math is X .6214 (90,724 miles)

To your other point. I have poured the "so called gas" from a fuel filter before and it was like a brown rusty color.
Couldn't believe a vehicle could run like that.
For the cost of the fuel filter from NAPA, I will do mine every spring. I had to put a new Tank in about 15 months ago so I am due this spring.
I put about 7-8,000 miles on per year.

Thanks. I would say he is a bit overdue for a fuel filter.

I'll put it this way. It may not solve his problem, but he won't be wasting his money throwing parts at it.

chenge the tps

try the TPS sensor, it tell the comp where the throttle is at. if there is a burnt spot @ the cruising range it could cause a shudder.

I'm not sure about the TPS on the FlyByWire models, but when they get burnt or fail on 97-03 models, you know it right away. PCM shoots a DTC along with erratic shifting.

Man, I hate the fact they use metrics in the cluster- It's a little more accurate but common..I recall out in the field we had to use metric scales on government jobs. Man that was a hassle. I guess it's a good thing. I was fortunate most of the time - partnered with a cool dude from Mexico - He new his metrics very well!!! Most jobs weren't in metric. I dropped my complaint in the box.

Now wheres my converter?

I have a question as well

Sounds similar to this just not sure. I have a 06 with 62K on it and it has started to noticably act up when I go hard on the throttle. Either from a dead stop or in when it down shifts for passing. Sounds like it will start missing and/or surging. Not throwing any codes at all. I have a Airraid installed an that is it. I have been told that the only real way to find out for sure is to scan it from a repair place. I just really want to make sure that I am not wasting my money by doing so and about what it should run?

Have you tried reinstalling the stock intake to see if the problem is intake related?

Auto Zone Scans for free.

I had the exact same problem with my '99 F150 w/4.6L engine. I went to a transmission shop thinking that it was the trans. slipping. He told me it sounded like I needed a tune-up. I put in a new set of spark plugs (which ain't no easy task and by the way they were totally wore out), and a new set of plug wires and it cured the problem.. It now runs like a champ, has more power and the gas mileage has increased. I never would have believed that that was the problem.
