In this case, it can be time well spent that could save lots of time, money and anguish in the future!

I presume the problem of removing sparkplugs, leaving a chunk of insulator in the head, generally refers to the 3-valve 2004-2008 engines, right?

A table respecting sparkplug removal could be helpful. Do I have this right?

The older 2-valve heads in a 5.4l may strip out the threads.
The older 2-valve heads in a Romeo 4.6l aren't a particular problem.
The older 2-valve heads in a Windsor 4.6l aren't a particular problem.

Yes it is the 5.4 3v used from 2004 until early 2008.

Well, from what I know, the 2-valve 4.6 *could* be a problem with blowing the plugs out of the head and stripping the threads, and definitely the 5.4 is as well. I believe some 4.6's had 4 thread heads and a switch was made to 8 thread heads, but I'm not sure when. I have an '03 Romeo 4.6 2valve but I still had the plugs done a bit early to be safe. It still can happen.

1. Need to be a little more specific. How? Who? Why?

2. Wrong

3. Wrong

97 - 08 OEM 16 valve V8 Modular heads are ALL interchangeable.

No not all. Just the 2 valves - 04 + plus model 2 valve heads wll fit your 97 ? - 04 + model 2 valves are the best V8 modular heads Ford has made for these trucks in along time. "0" plug problems.
5fours went 3 valve in 04.

if 04 plus heads are the best how come when i race an 04 5.4L i win by 3 or more truck lengths? id like to get my hands on 04+ heads with some comp cams i was looking around on craigslist for PI heads and i found this guy who will CNC your heads port them out n polish them up so they flow like 50% better or somthing for 150 bucks. Does that sound worth it or a rip off? or should i just get 04+ PI heads?

The two valve not the three lol. Yea those stock 04+ 5/fours are slow w/stock tune. I'm not sure how many lengths I can get on one. As soon as aI get about one and half - They freakin ALWAYS give up

But - Race one of those three valves with just a tune. I did behind 12 Oaks on 12 mile there lol - Same out of the hole, but he flew right by me within about 200 feet. He wasn't even custom, those were canned tunes. I couldn't believe the difference.

I don't think we would see that much in the 97-98's. The 99 5.4L will gain quite a bit.
